Power restored to 1,600 Launceston homes after car wipes out pole

Power has been restored to over 1,600 homes in Launceston this evening after a car crashed into a pole.

Emergency services were called to the incident on Penquite Road in Newstead just before 5pm on Saturday.

Firefighters arrived to find a Toyota RAV4 had wiped out a pole, causing it to dislodge from the ground and fall onto the car.

Live wires were brought down across the road as a result of the crash.

Exact injuries sustained by the driver are not yet known.
