An 18-year-old motorcyclist has been charged with hooning after allegedly performing a wheelie and speeding through a Launceston street on Friday night.
Police intercepted the rider about 9:40pm on Bathurst Street, near the Dan Murphys car park.
Officers observed the man complete a wheelie before accelerating at what they described as “unnecessary high speed”.
The motorcycle was seized and the rider was charged with hooning offences.
He has been bailed to appear in court at a later date.
Tasmania Police warned that dangerous driving behaviour puts both riders and the public at serious risk.
“Engaging in hooning and unsafe driving not only places your own safety at significant risk, but also the safety of the public,” police said.
“Police will continue targeting this high-risk behaviour.”
