Tenders have opened for $1.6 million worth of construction on two new early learning centres in Tasmania’s north-west.

The projects will upgrade a building at Zeehan Primary School and construct a new facility at East Devonport Primary School as part of the state’s Early Learning for Three Year Olds (EL3) trial program.

The East Devonport site will also support the school’s outside school care service.

Education Minister Jo Palmer said the EL3 initiative was central to the government’s commitment to early childhood education.

“We know that high-quality early learning gives children the best possible start in life, and our government is delivering for our youngest learners as they begin this lifelong journey,” Palmer said.

She said the program aimed to provide Tasmanian children with access to early learning in the year before kindergarten.

“Feedback has been positive from the four EL3 trials already operating, and we are getting on with the job of delivering more access across the State,” Palmer said.
