Residents in parts of Southern Tasmania are being warned to brace themselves for a bout of wild weather, as a deep low-pressure system sweeps across the southwest of Tasmania.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds, saying gusts of up to 100 km/h possible in some areas around the Western, Upper Derwent Valley and South East Forecast Districts.
The winds are expected to be at their strongest during the middle of the day, for a period of an hour or two, before easing off in the afternoon.
Geeveston and Dover are among the locations that may be affected by the gusty winds.
The State Emergency Service is urging residents to take necessary precautions, such as securing outdoor items like furniture and play equipment, supervising children closely and ensuring family and neighbors are aware of the warnings.
The SES also recommends that residents manage their pets and livestock and be prepared for potential power outages.
