Tasmanian Supreme Court Judge Gregory Geason has pleaded not guilty to charges of common assault, emotional abuse and intimidation.
The brief administrative hearing was held in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Wednesday before a contested hearing scheduled for July 15th – with plans to call 14 prosecution witnesses.
Geason did not appear in court in person, instead calling over the phone, according to the ABC.
It is expected a temporary magistrate from interstate will be appointed to sit on the case, after Magistrate Jackie Hartnett previously said no Tasmanian magistrates were able to sit on the case.
Geason was charged with common assault after he allegedly grabbed a woman by the arms, before squeezing & shaking her and striking her chest with his hand.
He is the first Tasmanian judge to ever be charged with a criminal offence.
