Off the back of what has been hailed as the ‘best ever’ edition of Tasmania’s Taste of Summer, the state government has announced a multi-million dollar investment to ensure the event’s continued growth in the years to come.

The highly-popular summer event wrapped up on Saturday night after drawing in nearly 100,000 attendees, including 30,000 from interstate, to the PW1 venue over the course of a week.

A welcome $7.7 million funding boost will be set aside for future iterations of the festival over the next five years, which Minister for Stadia and Events Nic Street says will “attract visitation to the state and support Tasmanian businesses”.

“The event supports around 300 businesses, including over 200 suppliers and the 90 curated stallholders, more than one-third of which are new additions to the event this year,” he said.

“With organisers expecting a total spend at the event of well over $20 million, we know the stallholders have been kept busy.”

In addition to Taste of Summer, the Tasmanian Government has partnered with organisers for other events including Festivale, Mona Foma and the Launceston BeerFest.

Mona Foma is set to receive $2.3 million per festival from 2022 to 2024, while the recent BeerFest received a $66,000 investment.
