TasPorts has installed five water quality monitoring buoys in and around the port area at Devonport.

The buoys will monitor the marine environment around the clock in preparation for an upcoming dredging campaign.

According to TasPorts, deploying the buoys early will help gather baseline data on water quality.

The devices are positioned at key locations near the Mersey River and offshore to track any changes during the dredging process.

Collected data will inform ongoing assessments of the marine environment and help address any potential impacts from port activities.

“During this time, the data collected will support ongoing assessments of the marine environment’s health and provide valuable insights into the impact of port activities,” a spokesperson said.

“As part of TasPorts’ commitment to transparency, a rolling average of live water quality data from the monitoring buoys will be available on TasPorts’ official website”.

The data is expected to go online in January and the monitoring buoys will remain in place until the end of June.
