Tasmanian swimmer Max Giuliani has capped off the World Short Course Championships in Budapest with a silver medal and two new records.
The 21-year-old broke both Oceania and Australian records in the men’s 200m freestyle final with a time of one minute and 40.36 seconds.
Giuliani moved up from fifth place after the first lap to second at the 150m mark but was unable to catch American Luke Hobson, who set a new world record of 1:38.61.
“2nd fastest in the world,” read a post that Giuliani shared on Instagram after the race.
Australia ended the meet with a total of 12 medals, including two golds won by Lani Pallister in the women’s 800m freestyle and Elijah Winnington in the men’s 400m freestyle earlier this week.
A total of 30 world records were broken across the six days of the championships.
