More than 7,000 passionate footy fans have spent their Saturday afternoon cheering on Tasmania’s AFL teams at North Hobart Oval.
7,189 supporters filled the grounds to watch the Tassie Devils U18’s, the Tasmanian Women’s and the Tasmanian Men’s team take on their Queensland counterparts.
Sam Siggins has been written into the history books after his stunning performance.
Siggins took control of the game and pushed Tasmania into the lead with an exceptional snap, making the halftime score 5.3 (33) to 4.6 (30).
The deafening roar of the crowd intensified as the final siren sounded at the mens game, confirming Tasmania’s hard-fought victory 62 – 55.
A group of stadium supporters marched to North Hobart Oval before the men’s game to make their voices heard, while the No AFL Stadium group didn’t show their face.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff, who chatted away with crowds throughout the game, told ABC it was “fantastic” to have The Map back.
“What a great spectacle it is here today for Tasmanians, right across the state, to enjoy the maps back,” he said. “It’s fantastic to see. It’s great to have that competitive football here.”
