‘Abusive’ P-Plater arrested after speeding down Bass Highway at 174km/h

A young P-plater allegedly caught racing down the Bass Highway at 74km/h above the speed limit has had his car impounded.

The 21-year-old was stopped by police in his blue Ford Falcon XR6 near Penguin just before 7pm on Tuesday.

He was allegedly travelling at 174km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Police said the young man became verbally abusive toward officers and was subsequently arrested at the scene.

He has since been charged with multiple traffic-related offences, including excessive speeding, failing to display P-plates and abusive language to police.

His vehicle was seized for 28 days and he was bailed to appear in Burnie Magistrates Court at a later date.
