After announcing an indefinite suspension of their direct flights between Auckland and Hobart starting in April, Air New Zealand has confirmed they hope to reinstate the state’s only international connection by October.

Pulse can reveal that following a planned six-month hiatus on flights during the upcoming winter season, the airline will again take to Tasmanian skies on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

“We have every intention of returning to this service and the availability of flights on our website reflects this,” Air New Zealand’s Short Haul General Manager Jeremy O’Brien told Pulse.

“In November Air New Zealand paused its direct services to Hobart because of the need to adjust its schedule to accommodate grounded aircraft undergoing mandatory additional Pratt & Whitney engine maintenance.”

“Globally all airlines are managing supply chain issues, engine supply issues, and additional maintenance requirements such as Pratt and Whitney, and this has led to schedule changes.”

While fares for the three-weekly flight are currently available for travellers to book, O’Brien assured passengers that alternatives would be offered if the recommencement date is pushed out.

“Our schedule reflects the current availability of aircraft but may be adjusted if that changes, in which case customers would be advised as soon as possible, rebooked or refunded,” he said.

The last direct service between Hobart and Auckland for the first half of the year will take off on Thursday, April 4 at 12pm.
