A police operation over the long weekend at one of Tasmania’s remote west coast beaches has landed several people in trouble with authorities.

During patrols at Sandy Cape within the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area, officers identified one driver behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol and two others who tested positive in oral fluid tests.

One person was found driving an unregistered vehicle, while another was using “number plates calculated to deceive”.

In the joint traffic operation with Parks and Wildlife, authorities also uncovered a fisheries violation and caught drivers without the necessary national park driving permits.

Tasmania Police Acting Inspector Craig Harvey warned drivers who continue to flaunt the rules that they will be detected and face consequences.

“This is a timely reminder for motorists and recreational vehicle users that police can and will show up anywhere at any time,” he said.

“Police and partner agencies will continue to conduct targeted enforcement activities at popular recreational areas such as this over the remainder of the summer holiday period.”
