Eight motorcycles used by hoons across Hobart’s suburbs have been removed from the street this week.
Police seized the eight bikes, including two that were stolen, during several traffic operations targeting illegal and anti-social riding off-road motorcycles in Bridgewater and Gagebrook.
Six people have since been arrested and are now facing various charges including evading police, motor vehicle stealing, unlicensed and disqualified driving and using an unregistered motor vehicle on a public street.
Sergeant Chris Cupit encouraged everyone to report dangerous driving to Police or Crime Stoppers.
“The unlawful use of both off-road motorcycles and unregistered road bikes within the community poses a serious risk, not only to the safety of pedestrians and road users, but also to the rider” said Sergeant Cupit.
“Police will continue to proactively target this type of behaviour utilising a number of strategies. Offending riders can expect to be prosecuted and have their vehicle seized.”
“Hooning, illegal or dangerous driving or riding will not be tolerated, and police will continue to actively target these behaviours.”
