Friends of the teenage boy who tragically lost his life after being run over while lying on the Tasman Highway near Sorell overnight have launched a fundraiser to cover his funeral expenses.

Berriedale boy Brock Adam Triffit, 16, was killed when a vehicle struck him at Orielton shortly before midnight on January 1.

His loved ones have taken to social media to remember their “best mate” as a “one of a kind” person who “will be missed by many”.

“He was only 16 years old and his life has been taken way too soon … He was a kind, funny, intelligent, one of a kind soul who was so generous to his friends and family,” the GoFundMe reads.

According to Police, Triffit had been travelling in a blue Mazda Tribute with a group of people when the vehicle stopped and left him behind on the road for unknown reasons.

Acting Inspector Adrian Leary said the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene following the “terrible tragedy”.

“It is unknown at this time as to why he’d got out of the vehicle and why he’d been left behind by the group – that is still a matter under investigation by crash investigation services,” Leary said.

The blue Mazda, which police have yet to confirm as stolen, was found abandoned in Clarendon Vale hours after the crash on Tuesday morning.

Authorities are now working to track down “all occupants” of the Mazda.

Leary said that the driver of the vehicle that struck the boy had no alcohol in their system and stopped immediately to call emergency services but has been left “very traumatised by the matter”.
