UPDATE – 6:45PM: TasWater say crews are responding and have since isolated the water.
“A vac truck will be used to ensure the repair can be done safely. Water from the burst main has entered nearby shops including the Cat and Fiddle Arcade,” a spokesperson said.
“We thank the community for their patience and understanding while we work to repair the water main.”
The estimated time of restoration is 11pm.
EARLIER: A burst water main has caused major disruptions in Hobart’s city centre this evening, flooding Murray Street and affecting peak hour traffic.
The main break has sent water into the front doors of nearby businesses, including the Myer/Cat and Fiddle shopping centre.
Images shared with Pulse show water flooding in and dripping down multiple levels and escalators.
Council and TasWater staff are on the scene.
