A fundraiser for a young swimmer, who is believed to have drowned after getting caught in a rip off Tasmania’s north-west coast, has raised over $1,600 for her family.

22-year-old Juvia disappeared from Somerset Beach, west of Burnie, while swimming with her siblings on the afternoon of November 11.

Despite extensive searches shortly after she was reported missing, it was not until late Saturday night, two weeks later on November 25, that her body was found around 5km away at Doctors Rocks near Wynyard.

Following Juvia’s tragic incident, her friends and family started the fundraiser to assist with the costs of her memorial and future cremation.

The fundraiser raised $1,632 in donations for her family, in addition to what friends of the family have describes as an ‘all-expenses-paid’ memorial service provided by Westella Funerals.

They say several other local businesses, including Celebrant Steph Templeton and Encore Performing Arts and House of Flowers, also stepped in to offer support to the grieving family.

Pulse understands Juvia was meant to relocate to Hobart with her family this month.

Police last month said investigators were continuing to conduct formal identifications of her body and were preparing a report for the coroner.
