Big Monkey’s upcoming production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ in the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens this summer has found its Cheshire Cat.
The theatre company realised during the early stages of putting the show together that they might need a ‘happy, smiling puss’, co-founder John ‘X’ Xintavelonis said.
“We thought what better than to do it at the Ten Lives Cat Centre,” he said.
Big Monkey will donate $4,000 to Ten Lives from ticket sales, recognising the cat shelter’s valuable community service of providing care and shelter for unwanted and abandoned cats and kittens.
Ten Lives CEO Noel Hunt said the centre was always delighted to receive such generous cash donations.
“This donation will enable us to prioritise and direct the funds into areas of greatest need,” Hunt said.
“This donation also comes right in the middle of our 2024 Tax Time Appeal and it may motivate others to make similar commitments.”
“It costs us $1.8 million a year to do the work that we do and we are very reliant on the public to support that work.”
The donation was made just as Big Monkey opened ticket sales for ‘Alice in Wonderland’ through the Theatre Royal Box Office.
