A woman from Devonport has won $1 million in the lottery, a prize she says will finally make her dream of owning a home a reality.
The newly-minted millionaire was the sole division one winner in Friday’s Weekday Windfall draw.
She said she still can’t believe her luck and has only told her closest family members about the win.
“I had a look on Friday night, but it still hasn’t sunk in. I woke up on Saturday like nothing happened and went to work all weekend but deep down I’m in shock,” she said.
“It’s so wonderful … I thought I would never be able to own my own home but now I’ll be able to! It’s so exciting.”
The woman said she has been renting her entire life and can’t wait to no longer have to.
She said she bought a ticket into the last Powerball draw and won division nine, which prompted her to use those winnings to purchase a ticket into Weekday Windfall.
“Now look what’s happened,” she said. “I haven’t told my kids yet. I don’t think they’ll believe me.”
