New Spirit of Tasmania ferries are set to arrive in Devonport next year, opening the door to increased cruise ship and vessel visits to the city.

A $240 million QuayLink wharf redevelopment is well underway to accommodate the larger ferries, alongside the creation of an expanded SeaRoad freight yard at the old TT-Line terminal.

The installation of a new multi-use berth to accommodate vessel upgrades and potential boutique-style cruise ship docking is in progress, with the first 148 precast planks already laid on the wharf.

The SeaRoad freight yard expansion will support the company’s new ship, SeaRoad 1, which will be the largest vessel yet and feature advanced technology.

The new ship is scheduled to replace the MV Liekut and join SeaRoad Mersey II in Devonport in the second half of 2024.
