Driver caught at 143km/h in 100km/h zone on East Tamar Highway

A man from Turners Marsh has lost his licence for three months after being caught driving at 43km/h over the speed limit on the East Tamar Highway.

The 52-year-old was stopped by police at Dilston on Sunday afternoon for travelling at 143km/h in the 100km/h zone.

Acting Inspector Aleena Crack said it was the second time in a few days that police have caught someone speeding on the highway in the same area.

“On Thursday police charged an 18-year-old George Town man after he was detected travelling at 163km/h in the 100km/h zone on the East Tamar Highway at Dilston,” she said.

“Such speeds place other road uses at risk of serious injury or death as a result of a collision.”

The man was issued with a fine of $858.50 and will be off the road for three months.
