Drugged-up man arrested after crashing into home in Hobart’s northern suburbs

A man has been arrested after the car he was allegedly driving crashed into the fence of a home in Hobart’s northern suburbs.

The 35-year-old was tested for illicit substances at the scene of the incident on Coraki Street in Chigwell on Monday afternoon, where he allegedly returned a positive result.

Police said a subsequent search of the man and the vehicle uncovered a quantity of ammunition, cash, illicit drugs, a firearm and a magazine.

Detectives from Bridgewater and Glenorchy then searched the man’s home in Glenorchy with officers from the Southern Drug and Firearms unit, finding large quantities of prescription medications, methylamphetamine, steroids and cash.

A loaded firearm, a magazine and further ammunition were also found at the property.

Inspector Mark Burke said anyone who witnessed the Ford XR8 Falcon driving around the northern suburbs on Tuesday should come forward.

“The man has been charged with several drugs, firearms and family violence offences and is expected to appear in court today,” he said.
