A young Tasmanian man is gearing up for an extraordinary 1,300 km run around the state to raise awareness and funds for mental health.
In November, 20-year-old Dillon Goss will embark on a demanding 20-day journey across Tasmania.
Drawing on his own experiences with mental health, the north-west coast local aims to inspire others to seek the help they need.
“I faced my own mental health challenges when I was a teenager and running has been incredibly helpful for me,” he said.
“Throughout my life, I’ve faced challenges, including severe anxiety and battles with depression. Thankfully, I’m in a much better place now.”
Running has provided Goss with a “sense of purpose” and he’s eager to support the Speak UP! Stay ChatTY initiative.
The run will begin in Devonport, taking him to the far north-west of Tasmania, through the remote Arthur River area and into the rugged terrain of the West Coast.
After the first week, Goss hopes to reach Strahan and four days later, he plans to arrive in Hobart.
Following a brief rest in the capital and after covering 11 days on the road, Goss will head up the Tasman Highway to St Helens, continue through the north-east and eventually return to Devonport.
“I love running, even when it challenges me and I see this endeavour as an opportunity to push my physical and mental limits while experiencing the beauty of my home state,” he said.
The 1,300km run around the state is set to begin on November 2 and wrap-up on November 23.
