21 years after Jason Mazurek was last seen, his family is once again appealing to the Tasmanian community for answers.
Captured in old and grainy security footage, the then 20-year-old Mazurek vanished on September 14, 2002, after celebrating a hockey grand final at Wrest Point in Sandy Bay.
The footage shows Mazurek heading towards Drysdale Avenue just before 2am before he disappeared.
Despite extensive searches, including river searches, no trace of him has ever been found.
In 2008, the coroner determined that he had passed away – but couldn’t specify how or when.
His sister, Jodie Fisher says the family is desperate for answers after 21 years.
“Somebody knows something,” Fisher told 7 Tasmania.
“We hate this time of year, we hate Christmas, we hate big occasions, [we] just want answers.”
“If you saw him walking along the bike track, if you saw him anywhere or even somebody remotely that looked like him, just come forward with that information because we have nothing.”
Crimestoppers Tasmania CEO David Higgins said cases like this ‘shatter our community’ and urged anyone that may have information on Mazurek’s disappearance to come forward anonymously.
“You might think it’s so insignificant you don’t want to bother police,” Higgins said.
“Well now, you can just put it online and press submit without your details, and you’ve done your bit.”
