The facility will feature four multi-purpose courts suitable for basketball, netball, volleyball and futsal, as well as change rooms, a multi-purpose space and parking.

Minister for Sports and Events Nick Duigan said the investment will provide a ‘state-of-the-art’ facility for the growing northern suburbs.

“Increasing community engagement in recreation and sport is a driving force behind this development,” he said.

“Sporting facilities, such as this one, play a vital role in promoting a healthier, more connected community.”

“They promote physical activity, which is crucial for maintaining good health, reducing the risk of chronic diseases and improving mental well-being.”

The decision to locate the centre at Claremont College was made after a lengthy assessment process of suitable flat locations.

“We have worked closely with the Glenorchy City Council to deliver a location that meets the community’s needs and long-term development goals,” Duigan said.

“This development means the broader community as well as Claremont College students and staff will have access to high quality multi-purpose indoor sporting facilities.”

A development application is expected to be lodged by the end of the year so construction can begin in 2025 for a 2026 completion date.
