It is understood a truck rolled earlier on Friday morning, with police and emergency services called to the incident around 11am.
The Tasmania Fire Service has issued a hazardous material advice, warning that exposure to the substance may be dangerous.
However, they say there is no risk of exposure to the general public at this time.
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area until the scene is clear, which is expected to occur around 5pm.
