Over 40 heritage properties across Tasmania will be given new life thanks to the latest round of a state grant program.
A total of $1.3 million has been allocated through the second round of the Built Heritage Grants Scheme to assist owners and custodians of state heritage-listed properties.
Projects funded include restoring the Myrtle Creek Farm P2 Hut in Collinsvale, repairs to the Hop Kiln Wall in New Norfolk and the Woodbury Barracks in the Southern Midlands.
Other recipients include the Parkham Anglican Church and Hall in the Meander Valley and St John’s Church Tower in Launceston, which received $200,000 for repairs.
Individual grants of $20,000 were also awarded to several property owners for smaller heritage projects.
The Ross Hotel, formerly the Man O’Ross Hotel, received $150,000 towards renovations and The National Trust of Australia $176,400 for stable works to Franklin House in Launceston.
Arts and Heritage Minister Madeleine Ogilvie said the grants are part of a $4.5 million investment by the state government over three years to support the heritage sector.
“Tasmania’s iconic heritage properties are not just poignant reminders of our shared history but they support tourism, local communities and so much more,” she said.
A third round of grants is planned for 2025–26.
