Hobart ‘least affordable’ capital city to drive in

Hobart is the least affordable capital city to drive in, with residents dishing out an average of $20,311 each year on their vehicles.

A recent AAA report compared the average income with the rising price of car loan repayments, insurance, servicing and even tire expenses which are all being affected by inflation.

In Tasmanian’s north, Launceston drivers are spending an average of $18,961 a year.

Average weekly cost per household:

  • Car loan payments: $182.10 (up $26.50)
  • Rego, CTP and driver’s licence fees: $23.12 Comprehensive Car Insurance: $26.76
  • Servicing and tyres: $32.33
  • Fuel: $95.87
  • Public transport: $28
  • Total annual transport cost: $20,311 (up $1,421)
