Bus services in Hobart will be disrupted on Friday as drivers stage a two-hour work stoppage over a pay freeze dispute.
The Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) has called the strike, saying Metro’s current offer is inadequate and will only worsen the driver shortage that has led to service cuts.
The work stoppage will take place between 11:30am and 1:30pm, affecting services across the greater Hobart area.
Services in the North and North-West will not be impacted but, according to the RTBU, may be subject to disruptions caused by other statewide industrial actions.
The union is calling for less of a focus on ‘vanity projects’ from the state government and more support for Tasmanians who rely on essential services like public transport.
Transport Minister Eric Abetz says all parties should continue to come to the negotiating table on good faith.
Metro is yet to comment but is expected to communicate schedule changes through its website and social media.
