Authorities have given the thumbs up to Hobart’s licensed venues after finding no issues during an overnight compliance check operation.
Tasmania Police Acting Commander John Toohey said 19 venues and 39 security guards were inspected across Sandy Bay, Hobart and North Hobart on Friday night.
“We are pleased to announce that all of the establishments and staff were compliant,” he said.
“The operation took an educational approach, engaging with owners and staff to reinforce the responsibilities of security agents.”
“It was encouraging to see that all venues and personnel were adhering to the regulations.”
“Our primary goal as police is to ensure public safety, and initiatives like this are crucial in achieving that.”
Acting Director of Compliance at Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) Paul Cummins said it is important venues and their staff comply with relevant laws.
“This legislation ensures that security agents and crowd controllers are properly licensed and maintain professional standards,” he said.
Cummins said collaborative efforts like these help keep Hobart a safe and enjoyable place for everyone.
“These checks provide an opportunity to ensure everyone understands and follows the rules, which is vital for maintaining safety and responsibility at licensed premises,” he said.
More random operations are planned to be undertaken throughout the festive season.
