A young man from Warrane is facing multiple charges, including motor vehicle stealing, after allegedly failing to return motorcycles he test drove to their owners.
The 22-year-old is accused of being involved in a string of motorcycle thefts in the greater Hobart area over the past two weeks.
Tasmania Police said the man arranged to test drive the motorcycles listed on online marketplaces and then failed to return them.
They are now urging Tasmanians to “exercise caution” when selling motor vehicles, including asking for ID and contact information and accompanying the potential buyer on test drives.
Police have also suggested installing a GPS tracking device to aid in recovery if vehicles do happen to be stolen and using high-quality locks and chains to deter theft when parked.
