A woman “in a purple wig” has been charged with stealing over $1,700 worth of jewellery, food and clothes from various businesses across Hobart.
The 45-year-old from New Town allegedly stole the items from seven different stores on Wednesday.
Acting Sergeant Siobhan O’Donovan said police were called to a store in the CBD around 12:30pm after reports of a woman with purple hair stealing items.
Officers tracked down the woman within 15 minutes and say they found her in possession of the stolen goods.
“Tasmania Police is committed to protecting the community and local businesses and detecting and preventing anti-social and criminal behaviour with the aim of making our public spaces safer for everyone,” O’Donovan said.
The woman is scheduled to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court in December.
