The popular Taste of Summer event will return to PW1 on Hobart’s waterfront this New Year.
Last held over December 2023 and January 2024, the festival attracted a crowd of over 85,000 people, including 5,208 revellers on New Year’s Eve alone.
The event also provided a significant boost to local businesses, with 90 Tasmanian stallholders exceeding $4.2 million in turnover and per head spend reaching $50.30.
Organisers have shared some of the impressive culinary statistics from the previous festival, revealing that 45,000 Tasmanian oysters were shucked, 45kg of abalone served and 3,500 bottles of Tasmanian sparkling wine uncorked.
Punters also consumed 3 tonnes of squid, over 500 litres of ice cream and 6 tonnes of potatoes.
71% of all waste was diverted from landfill, organisers said.
“The success of Tasmania’s Taste of Summer and the year on year growth we have achieved since becoming the festival proponents in 2021 is a heartening way to honour the ‘Taste’ legacy,” they said.
“Our custodianship of this Tasmanian icon is not a responsibility we take lightly.”
“There can also be no doubt that Tasmania’s Taste of Summer fosters immense civic pride as an event all Tasmanians but especially Hobartians can be proud of.”
The next edition of Taste of Summer will run for one week from Saturday, December 28, 2024 to January 4, 2025.
