Thousands of Hobart shoppers have queued up to get their hands on a share of $75,000 worth of gift cards, courtesy of Melbourne rich-lister Adrian Portelli.
The property investor, who recently purchased all five houses in latest season of The Block for a reported $15.03 million, handed the early Christmas presents out at Northgate in Glenorchy on Monday.
Portelli took to Instagram just 22 hours before the event to announce the giveaway at the shopping centre, encouraging people to line up before 9am.
“I’m gonna drop $75,000 there so you guys can line-up, come down and grab $100 or $200 giftcards,” he said.
“Especially Christmas is fast-approaching, so a lot of people with cost-of-living through the roof, hopefully this helps.”
Hundreds of eager shoppers took Portelli up on his offer, forming a long queue that snaked throughout the centre.
The event is part of a larger, nationwide giveaway aimed at assisting Australians grappling with the cost of living.
Portelli, who flew to Hobart via private jet, will fly to Sydney for another giveaway worth $150,000 on Tuesday.
