A Tasmanian AFL star is joining a former Premier in walking 350km from the top of the state to the bottom next month.

Jack Riewoldt will walk ‘The Walk’ from Burnie to Glenorchy in June with the aim of raising awareness and $50,000 for the state’s migrant and refugee communities.

“We know that diversity and inclusion in sport leads to better team performance, increased participation, a wider talent pool, personal development and community engagement,” Riewoldt said.

“Well done to Peter Gutwein and Migrant Resource Centre Tas for turning the dial up on such a powerful conversation and raising awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusion in Tasmania.”

Gutwein plans to cover 50km each day from June 9 to 16.

“Two out of five Tasmanians are from a migrant background,” Gutwein said.

Gutwein aims to cover 50km each day and raise $50,000 during the walk.

“It’s time we change the conversation to be not where we’re from, but the values we share and the learnings and innovation that comes from a global community.”

“The support from people like Jack and businesses right across Tasmania has been incredible. It is heart-warming to know that when it comes to inclusion, acceptance and diversity, it is a priority for so many people and organisations.”

‘The Walk’ aims to showcase the importance of Tasmania’s migrant and refugee community to the state’s social and economic well-being and to highlight the contribution they make across our businesses, sporting and volunteer organisations.

The money raised will go towards providing much-needed support and resources for these communities through the Migrant Resource Centre.
