A Launceston mum who unknowingly sat on a winning scratchie she had forgotten about since Mother’s Day has won $25,000.

The northern Tasmanian local found her fortune stuck to the fridge and said she “couldn’t believe it” when she finally scratched the $2 ticket.

“My three kids gave me some scratchies months ago for Mother’s Day and I didn’t know how to do them, so I scratched one and forgot about the rest,” she said.

“The other day I decided to actually scratch the left-over tickets and I was left in complete shock.”

The woman plans to share her winnings with her children and surprise her girlfriends with a getaway.

“I’ve already decided to gift $5,000 each to my kids and I’ll surprise my girlfriends with a getaway. They won’t know what’s hit them,” she said.

“We’ll have to open the bottle of champagne to celebrate!”

The winning ticket was purchased at Shearwater IGA.
