A “verbal disagreement between a group of youths” and people known to them on a Launceston street has led to charges against two teenagers.
The teenagers, aged 16 and 17, reportedly became involved in the dispute on Sassafras Crescent in Rocherlea around 5pm on Monday night.
Police say officers “responded quickly” after receiving a call when the youths left the scene and returned carrying weapons.
“A woman received non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident … nobody was seriously injured,” police said.
The 17-year-old boy has been charged with carrying a weapon unlawfully in public and assault, while the 16-year-old boy was charged with “matters unrelated to the incident”.
Both will appear in the Youth Justice Division of the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date.
“Northern Criminal Investigation Branch is following a specific line of inquiry in relation to a third youth,” police said.
