‘Leave immediately’ bushfire warning as blaze burns at Petcheys Bay near Cygnet

Updated: An earlier emergency bushfire warning for people in Lymington near Cygnet has been downgraded.

Authorities say people in the Riseleys Road, Donohue Road, Kubes Road, Martins Road and Petcheys Bay areas should now ‘watch and act’.

Earlier: A “leave immediately” bushfire emergency warning has been issued for the Petcheys Bay area in the Huon Valley as an out of control blaze burns.

The Tasmania Fire Service have told people around Donohue Road and Kubes Road near Cygnet to evacuate now as firefighters battle a blaze at Direens Road in Lymington.

“Donohue Road, Kubes Road Petcheys Bay and surrounding areas is expected to be impacted … within 1 hour,” the TFS said.

“The fire danger rating is Moderate. Fires under these conditions are expected to be uncontrollable and fast moving.”

The fire is travelling towards Petcheys Bay.

“If you are going to leave, make sure there is a clear road to a safer place,” the TFS said.

“If you don’t have a safe route to a safer place, shelter inside the nearest building, regularly checking your surroundings and putting out any fires near the building until the fire passes.”

A nearby safer place has been setup at the Cygnet Yacht Club at 145 Lymington Road.
