Major crash blocking Bass Highway east of Ulverstone

A man has died after a serious, three vehicle head-on crash on the Bass Highway in Northern Tasmania tonight.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene near Camp Clayton shortly after 8pm on Thursday night.

Police say a silver Mazda BT50 Ute and a silver Holden Commodore collided head on in the Devonport-bound lanes, with a blue Mazda 3 sedan then colliding with the debris from the first two vehicles.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,” Police said.

Crash investigation services remain at the scene conducting investigations, with assistance from Ambulance Tasmania, Tasmania Fire Service and the State Emergency Service.

Bass Highway traffic is currently being diverted along Westella Drive, with Police asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to contact them on 131444.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Motorists should expect significant delays as the road is expected to remain closed for some time.
