A police investigation has been launched after a man allegedly approached a young girl in Lindisfarne and asked her to get inside his van.
The incident occurred as the girl was walking to school near the East Derwent Highway on Monday morning.
The Deputy Principal of a school on Hobart’s eastern shore informed parents of the incident through email.
They said the girl was waiting at the Clinton Road traffic lights when the man pulled up beside her.
“[He] tried to coax her inside saying he had a present for her,” the email said.
“We ask that families calmly reiterate personal safety messages and the need for children to be wary of strangers.”
The man was described as being in his late 40s or early 50s.
A Tasmania Police spokesperson told Pulse the investigation is ongoing.
“Anyone with information about the matter is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers Tasmania,” the spokesperson said.
“You can stay anonymous.”
