Man filmed waving knife outside Hobart police station taken into custody

A man caught on camera waving a knife at police outside the Hobart City Police Station has been arrested after the early morning incident.

The 52-year-old was filmed shouting at officers while standing in the middle of Argyle Street, telling them to “stay there” as they attempted to take him into custody.

According to police, the man was detained “within a few minutes” around 2:30am on Saturday morning.

He has since been charged with unlawful possession of a dangerous article in a public place, an offence that carries a maximum fine of $9,750 or a potential prison sentence of up to two years.

Police say no one was injured in the incident.
