Metro will again resume normal operations on several bus routes into Hobart’s northern suburbs following the recent slashing of services due to rock-throwing incidents.
From today, all Route 522, 530, X30 and 696 services to Gagebrook and Herdsmans Cove will return to their regular schedules.
Metro made the decision to adjust services in early October to “prioritise the safety” of drivers and customers.
It followed a ban imposed in April that lasted three months and saw a combined hundreds of services cut short.
“As the incidents of rock throwing in this area have reduced, Metro will fully restore services to these suburbs from 6 November,” a spokesperson said.
“Metro will continue to work closely with Tasmania Police to monitor and respond to safety incidents should they occur.”
Police have previously charged several young people with incidents relating to damage to Metro buses across the state’s south.
“These incidents are uncommon, but when they happen, they are very dangerous,” Inspector Jim Semmens said in May.
“Throwing rocks at any vehicle is unacceptable and dangerous, particularly in the case of heavy vehicles like busses as it places the driver, passengers, and members of the community in danger.”
