Green-lit plans to build a $45 million shopping centre south of Hobart, which is expected to create over 1,100 jobs and provide a boost to the local economy, have been welcomed by a local MP.

The Spring Farm Village development in Kingston, located across from Bunnings on the Channel Highway, will feature a large supermarket and a variety of specialty retailers.

According to developers Tipalea Partners, the centre is already 70% leased and is expected to open in early 2026.

Franklin MP and Business, Industry and Resources Minister Eric Abetz said the project will provide new opportunities and services to the growing Kingston community.

“The addition of businesses like Coles and Chemist Warehouse will bring both convenience and more jobs for locals,” he said.

“This development shows great confidence in Tasmania’s growth and is an excellent example of the private sector playing an essential role in meeting community needs.”

Dozens of other commercial spaces will be built alongside the Coles supermarket at Spring Farm Village

Kingborough Council approved the development application for the project on Monday, which will provide over 7,500 square metres of retail space in a rapidly growing area.

Tipalea chief executive Scott Spanton said the centre will be the most technologically advanced and environmentally sustainable in the area.

“Spring Farm Village is set to redefine everyday convenience in Kingston and we are eager to appoint a builder and get construction underway,” he said.

Other retailers secured so far include a bakery, Studio 7 Hair and Lefa Nails.
