More of the Midland Highway has returned to the 110km/h speed limit ahead of the Christmas holiday period.

The 2km section just south of Oatlands brings the total length of completed road works up to 22 kilometres, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Michael Ferguson says.

Speed limits will also be raised to 80km/h on other sections of the highway where there will be no work and it’s safe to do so during the Christmas-New Year period.

“With work progressing well, we have also reached a stage in several areas where it is now safe to lift speed limits when no work is taking place,” Ferguson said.

The final 2.6km stretch under construction at Ross will have its speed limit lifted to 80km/h over Christmas and will be completed in January with the installation of safety barriers.

A 3.4km section near the southern entrance to Oatlands will also be increased to 80km/h during the break.

A 3.3km section north of Interlaken Road will stay at 60km/h due to sharp drop-offs and bollards close to the traffic lanes.

The speed limit on a nearly 6km part of the highway north of Conara Junction will be raised to 80km/h during the break and outside of working hours when work restarts.

“We ask everyone to stay safe during the holiday period by keeping to posted speed limits and following the signs when you travel through roadworks,” Ferguson said.
