Tasmanian drivers will soon have access to more real-time travel information with the pending installation of several new electronic highway signboards.

The electronic signboards give estimated travel times to key locations and warning messages about crashes and incidents impacting traffic.

Two are already operating on the Tasman Highway near Hobart Airport, with several more set to be installed across greater Hobart highways next week.

From Monday, work to position gantries at locations including the Brooker Highway at Berriedale, Huon Highway before the Southern Outlet and South Arm Highway will start.

Further signboards will then go up on the Tasman Highway, between Cambridge Road and the Mornington interchange and between the Mornington roundabout and Dampier Street.

To minimise disruption, installation work will occur overnight between 6:30pm and 6am and during off-peak daytime hours.

The project is expected to be completed by October 15, with testing to be conducted before the signboards are activated.

Planning for a further six signboard installations across greater Hobart is currently underway.
