Another night of wild weather is on the way for Tasmania, with wind gusts of up to 110km/h possible for some parts of the state.

The BOM are warning residents in and around St Helens, Swansea, New Norfolk, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover to prepare.

“Strong to damaging winds ahead of the front are expected to reach the southwest of the state this evening, before spreading to southern and eastern parts of the state overnight,” the BOM said

“Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds in the south during Friday morning, and in the northeast by early Friday afternoon.”

Earlier this week, Hobart was hit by a 109km/h gust of wind that left some roofs damaged and knocked out power across parts of the city.

Leon Smith from the SES said crews were only called to two jobs in Lutana and West Hobart following the 109km/h gust, which was “quite amazing”.

“These were both damage to roofs with loose roofing iron that became dislodged,” Smith told Hobart radio.

He said one of the damaged homes was relatively new and one was an older home.

“Wind gusts like this from this direction, the westerly sort of south westerly direction do highlight issues with roofs.”

“And I’m really surprised actually we only had the two jobs given that gust of 109km/h.”
