A Launceston man has been charged with multiple driving offences after allegedly crashing into several vehicles while under the influence of alcohol.
The 45-year-old was arrested on Friday, October 4, after police received numerous calls about a white Ford Ranger being driven erratically through the city streets.
According to police, the man caused several crashes in Launceston and Nunamara, about 20 minutes from the city, while driving at more than four times the legal alcohol limit.
Acting Sergeant Caitlin Rawlings said the man’s breath analysis reading was 0.202.
He was immediately disqualified from driving for 12 months and will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date.
“One driver doing the wrong thing [is] one too many,” Rawlings said.
“Police will continue to conduct targeted high visibility traffic operations, however road users can expect to see us anywhere, anytime.”
“Being caught doing the wrong thing is one risk, but causing a crash that results in serious injury or death is a far more serious consequence.”
