The new Flagstaff Pumptrack has opened in the east coast town of St Helens.
Deputy Premier Guy Barnett said the state government invested $500,000 in its construction.
“Having being an avid cyclist for almost my entire life, I can tell you that cycling isn’t just about physical health, it’s also about mental health and feeling a sense of belonging with your community,” Barnett said.
“The Flagstaff Pumptrack will enable anyone new to cycling to develop their skills and confidence in a more controlled environment before moving onto mountain biking.”
The track is designed for BMXs, scooters, skateboards and mountain bikes.
Break O’Day Mayor Mick Tucker said the facility is a welcome addition to the town.
“Simply put, the pumptrack means kids off their devices and families spending time together in our great East Coast outdoors,” Tucker said.
The track was built by World Trail, a renowned track construction company and is close to some of St Helens’ popular mountain bike trails.
