A new clearway in the left-hand lane of Macquarie Street, heading towards the city from the Southern Outlet, will start during peak periods from Monday.

The changes come as part of the Hobart Southern Projects initiative and will see parking and stopping prohibited between Gore and Molle streets for three hours on weekdays from 6:30am and again from 3pm.

Parking will be removed from the right-hand side of Macquarie Street to create a no-stopping zone and provide an extra traffic lane.

The Department of State Growth say vehicles parked in the clearway or no stopping zone next week “will be towed”.

“The Southern Projects is a suite of coordinated transport projects focused on providing safer and more reliable travel options between Hobart’s growing southern suburbs and the CBD,” a spokesperson said.

“The next project, which will add an extra connector lane to the Southern Outlet between Davey and Macquarie streets, is scheduled to start later this year.”

“The final project will be construction of a new T3 transit lane on the Southern Outlet for buses, taxis, motorcycles and cars with three or more passengers.”
