Tasmania’s newest multi-day hiking experience, dubbed the ‘Tyndall Range walk, is one step closer to becoming a reality.

The 28-kilometre, three-day, two-night walk will run between Lake Plimsoll and Lake Margaret Power Station on the West Coast.

The track route has been confirmed and new renders showcase the stunning views of the rugged West Coast mountainside, lakes, trails and a suspended lookout have been revealed.

Parks Minister Nick Duigan believes the walk will be a “game-changer” and enhance Tasmania’s reputation as a top walking destination.

“A lot of effort has gone into the selection of the track alignment to capture the stunning features of the Tyndall’s landscape,” Duigan said.

The West Coast was chosen as the location for the walk due to its extraordinary landscapes and links to hydro-power and geological exploration heritage.

Construction is expected to begin in 2025/26 and will create around 140 jobs, with an additional 40 jobs in tourism, hospitality and transport.

An Environmental Impact Assessment and detailed plans for the huts and camping ground will be released for public comment in the first half of 2024, before the track opens in what is hoped to be 2029.
