The recently launched Spirit of Tasmania V has emerged from a storm that featured hurricane-force winds unscathed.
Transport Minister Eric Abetz said the incident in early November, in which the vessel broke free from its moorings at the Rauma shipyard in Finland, was ‘minor’.
“I am pleased to advise that TT-Line have informed me that Spirit V sustained no significant damage,” he said on Friday.
The ferry was pushed against the opposite quay during the storm, with a tugboat and two barges positioning themselves in the way to prevent any major impact.
“Spirit of Tasmania V is floating, safe and secure with every action possible being taken to protect the vessel,” TT-Line Acting CEO Kym Sayers said at the time.
“A detailed assessment of any damage is just not possible at this stage, but it appears there has been no breach to the hull.”
